Regular lessons can be 1, 1.5 or 2 hours long. When you are just starting to drive, we would recommend you book 2hr driving lessons with a driving instructor at least once every week.

Why?
As with any new skill, it is only natural to make lots of mistakes when you first learn to drive. Practice makes perfect, and so we tend to stop very regularly to review, assess, then try again. This means that one-hour lessons will not be enough when you first get going. Here at En route, we take into consideration attention span estimates; healthy teenagers and adults range from 10 to 20 minutes. We aim to ensure the balance between teaching and practice is met. Times goes very quickly when you are having fun!
What Next?
As you make good progress, you may then drop to 1-hour lessons if this suits. We find that pupils who book regular 2-hour lessons weekly complete their training and pass their test earlier. Pupils who take 1 hour per week or leave too long in-between driving lessons tend to find it more difficult to pick up from where they left off. As a result, they may take longer to be test-ready. In our opinion, learning to drive at night as a beginner is more difficult than it would be learning during the daylight; this is because learning the controls whilst having to strain to see where you are going isn’t easy. It is however important to have such practice as you will likely be confronted with night driving. It may be wiser to practise during the night later on in your training, once you have already made progress with your driving instructor. Remember you don’t have to pass your theory before you start your driving lessons, but you must pass your theory before you can sit the practical test.
